Karina Barberis is a film-based Irish-Italian photographer from West London. Initially studying a BA in Film & Spanish at the University of Bristol, her photography practise took hold during a year abroad in Latin America. Then entering into London’s commercial fashion image-making industry, she began creative directing and shooting projects for independent brands, Notion Magazine and artists at Sony, Universal and Parlophone Records. While music has continued to dominate her commercial work, making features for Rolling Stone, TMRW Mag and The Wire, following a Photography MA at UWE Bristol, her portfolio has begun to expand into the primary concerns of her personal work engaged with grassroots culture and community organising, creating work for The Young Ealing Foundation, Mind and Rizla.

Interested in themes of community, migration and culture, Karina’s work dances between documentary, fashion and street photography, often visualised through subjects that express a feeling of play, hope and resilience.
